Driftwood Piercing Studio is led by Jason Van Tat, a professional piercer with over thirty years of experience across multiple studios throughout Northern Colorado. From his early days apprenticing in Denver to opening and running his own studios right here in Estes Park, Jason has spent decades perfecting his craft — and building the kind of client relationships that span generations.

We believe in building lasting relationships with our clients — which is why all jewelry changes, downsizes, and piercing consultations are complimentary at Driftwood Piercing Studio. You only pay for the jewelry. Jason Van Tat
HEAD PIERCER · 30 YEARS EXPERIENCE
Jason has been in professional body piercing since 1993, apprenticing under PJ at Bound by Design in Denver before going on to open and operate multiple studios across Northern Colorado — including Runic Body Art (with an on-staff medical director) and Van Tat Piercing right here in Estes Park.
A former licensed EMT through the National Registry of EMTs — a credential he held for five years before an injury ended his first responder work — Jason brings a level of clinical precision and safety-consciousness to his work that sets him apart. A multi-year APP Conference attendee, he's back in the piercing studio after a season as a published author and journalist, and genuinely excited to be building something special at Driftwood.​

Not all piercing jewelry is created equal — and we think you deserve to understand the difference. At Driftwood Piercing Studio, we carry a full range of jewelry to serve every client and every budget, from implant-grade titanium for fresh piercings all the way up to solid 14K gold artisan pieces from BVLA.
We also carry Tawapa organic jewelry and a selection of Vermeil pieces for clients looking for a more affordable option for special occasions — weddings, formal events, or short-term wear. We are completely transparent about what these materials are and are not appropriate for: they are beautiful event jewelry, but they are not suitable for fresh or healing piercings, and we will always tell you that upfront. We would rather you understand exactly what you're buying than have a bad experience down the road.
If it's going into a fresh or healing piercing, it meets APP material standards — full stop. If it's for a special occasion on a healed piercing, we'll make sure you know exactly what you're working with.

Intimate / below-the-belt piercings —
We offer a full range of intimate piercings for clients whose anatomy is suitable for the placement. A brief consultation is always part of the process — not every placement works for every body, and we will always be honest with you about what will heal well and what won't. All intimate piercings are performed with the same APP standards, implant-grade jewelry, and professional discretion as every other service we offer.
Custom industrial bending & artful ear projects —
Jason hand-bends custom industrial bars to fit your exact anatomy, and designs multi-piercing ear compositions that span several well-positioned placements for a result that's as intentional as it is beautiful. Piercings For Minors

Earlobes: Anyone over the age of 5 can get their ears pierced. However, there is an upcharge for children ages 5 to 9 because we spend more time with them. We typically block off at least twice as much time for young children as we do for adults. A parent or guardian must accompany minors. You need matching IDs (last name/address) or other evidence of your relationship (such as a birth certificate or guardianship paperwork).

Nipple/tongue/genitals: Due to the nature and location of these piercings, we only perform them for adults -- 18 years and older, even with parental consent or parents/guardians present. You still need to be an adult with a valid ID.

Belly buttons: the comfort level of belly button piercing for minors varies by piercer. Some piercers may be willing to pierce the belly button of people 15 and older, with parents/guardians present and valid matching IDs. Please reach out to confirm.

Other piercings: Generally, our piercer will consider piercings for teenagers (13 and older) with parental or guardian consent and matching legal IDs, but this will be on a case-by-case basis, depending on the type and location of the piercing. Please reach out to the shop or email Driftwoodpiercing@gmail.com if you are interested in a piercing noted here and are a minor.

We welcome both walk-ins and scheduled appointments at Driftwood Piercing Studio. For single piercings and quick visits, walk right in. For multi-placement ear curation sessions or if you have something specific in mind, booking ahead is always a good idea.
We also encourage you to come in just to look at jewelry, ask questions, or talk through placement ideas before you commit. That's what we're here for.
